Style Advice 001 Extended: Counting Stitches
The reason to count the number of stitches per inch on a shirt is so that you can tell the quality of the fabric used to make the shirt. Normally you will see 18 stitches per inch on shirts on shirts less than 100$. If you are investing in a more expensive shirt a good way to see if the shirt is worth the money is if you count the upside of 25 to 30 stitches per inch. This means that their is a higher thread count in the fabric and the shirt will last longer and will feel better. There is of course no substitute for a properly fitted shirt. It would be better to buy a shirt that is of lower thread count as opposed to a higher thread count if the fit of the lower thread count shirt is better.>
